Ryunosuke Naruhodo
The Great Ace Attorney
Male
21
Bisexual
Abilities
⯌ Karma He has a sword-- he's not particularly proficient with it though.

⯌ Defense He's a lawyer, does that count?

⯌ Observation He's part of the Great Detective's family, he has a few skills in the areas of observation and detection.
Out-of-Character
⯌ Backtag Yes, absolutely! I'm happy to backtag as long as there is interest in a thread. If I ever drop something either because I lost a notif or whatever, don't hesitate to poke me and ask! Chances are I'd be happy to continue.

⯌ Fourthwall Ask first, but chances are that I'll be fine with it. I don't mind fourth wall breaking, personally.

⯌ Off-Limits I don't have any triggers or content that particularly upsets me.

⯌ Other This character is from a newly released (in English) canon, so I'm naturally going to do my best to avoid spoilers unless otherwise noted. I will note in thread headers if spoilers do come up. But don't be afraid to tell me if you don't want to be spoiled, because I'm happy to work around them for people who are still interested in seeing the series for themselves!
In-Character
⯌ Pysical Contact Certainly. Bold moves will definitely fluster him, but I welcome that kind of chaos.

⯌ Mental Contact Mind-reading and other mental effects are fine by me, just let me know what your plans are and keep me informed so that I can share what needs to be shared.

⯌ Flirt Please do.

⯌ Fight Yes, although he's not keen to start them and isn't a particularly good choice for a fight. Chances are he'd be more likely to run than fight, but he has the means to fight in self-defense if necessary.

⯌ Injury Yes, although please talk with me about more seriously debilitating injuries (loss of limbs/senses/etc.) that would have a prolonged effect.

⯌ Death Let's discuss it! I won't say no to it given the right circumstances, but it is something I'd like to discuss before it gets to that level, just because of the heavy nature of the subject.

⯌ Other If there's anything else you think of that's not here-- let me know! Chances are I would be happy to see it happen, we can make it work!

Personality: Ryunosuke is a budding lawyer with a strong sense of duty and a passion for what he does. His struggles with coming to terms with his work ultimately stemmed from his desire to do the right thing. Even though the circumstances that led him to becoming a lawyer caused the change to be rather sudden, he always took it very seriously. First because it was Kazuma's dream that he looked to inherit. Second because he knew what it felt like for those accused. Because of those two things, when he commits to it, he works extremely hard to fill that role, pushing himself to study law over the course of a month-long trip to Britain when in reality even then it was a subject to be taught for years. But in coming to trust himself and his own personal judgments, he learns to place his unwavering trust in his clients and become the defense attorney that they deserve.

He's a kind person with a good heart. Someone who cares about the people he meets and would gladly do what he can to help them. But he doesn't always realize the extent of his potential, often tying up his successes with the support he gets from others. While it's true he has an amazing support system, he's not as hopeless without him as he thinks at times. Especially knowing that some of those people are exceedingly intelligent and purposefully do not give him more information than he needs because they too are invested in his growth.

But far more than that, he's also a responsible and sincere person. He makes his job in the courtroom to pursue the truth, regardless of what the truth is. And even when that truth brings to light his own failures, he does so willing to accept the consequences. Even Van Zieks, who is blinded by his prejudice, acknowledges that in him after several battles in the courtroom with him.

So the confidence that he does have doesn't project consistently. In situations where he's nervous, his eyes are prone to flitting all over the room quite conspicuously. But once he snaps himself out of it, he's quite capable with his words and can speak compellingly and intelligently.

Over a short period of time he becomes very close to several people who assist him on his journey as a lawyer and as a person. He recognizes their support and comes to rely on them greatly; placing his trust in them with both his work and his life. And when given the opportunity to, his personal judgments of people tend to be very good. Being thrown into the trial of McGuilded at the last second, he went in having barely spoken to his client-- and as a result he ended up defending and acquitting a man who could have been guilty based on what he saw... but had tampered with the evidence until it was impossible to continue the trial. It caused him to question himself, so much that he almost didn't continue defending in Britain. But in accepting that he has to have faith in himself to have that same unrelenting faith in his clients, he finds his strength to continue.

In general, he's a very expressive person, both with his face and with his words. When he speaks from the heart, it comes through. And he doesn't hold back when someone says something foolish or just... wrong, frequently sighing at Holmes's antics or sweating and gritting his teeth when someone has him on the ropes. But he's also a very resilient and determined individual. Even at his lowest he drags himself back up, even when it's hard.

People of grand stature and status do tend to intimidate him. Those in power and especially those whom he has to answer to specifically make him nervous. This can result in him spitting out words or stuttering. It may cause him to bend to some things-- like saying it's fine to be kept waiting two hours for a meeting-- but is not willing to back down on what matters. Even under pressure, he's willing to go to great lengths to be heard out and prove himself.

Whereas some familiar things are a comfort, Ryunosuke is the type who can appreciate the unknown. New things excite him as he explores and gets to know the foreign city of London. It comes out that he's prone to being enabled or outright enabling himself into buying useless knick knacks he doesn't need and filling his office with them. And on that note his skills with organization and cleanliness are quite sadly mostly non-existent. He keeps everything... but in towering piles on his desk, where you couldn't find any free space even if you tried. But he's not careless with his things. He does keep them safe. Just... don't expect him to know immediately where to find about seventy percent of them.

Abilities & Inventory: Abilities are simple. He's just your average, everyday lawyer with no special abilities to speak of. But if you count things that he has honed himself as a person his perception is quite good. That's something that has developed from his time in the courtroom as well as his "dances" with Sherlock Holmes and his Logic and Reasoning Spectaculars. So that said, if you ever need a defense lawyer (in a dream???) look him up. He's good at what he does.

With him at this time he has his black uniform, lawyer armband, traveling cloak and a katana named Karma that Kazuma asked him to hold on to for the time being.

Suitability & Plans: Specifically from his canon point, Naruhodo is just now finding his own path. After being thrust into things for so long by circumstances, it took him two games of development to come to terms with the fact that even though all those things happened, he was the one who chose his path and it is the one he wants to follow. There's still a great deal to explore in putting him in a similar situation. But now, while still faced with things beyond his control, trying to go forward and owning his path. That's the character arc I'm really interested in-- because he's still very much learning.

More than that, it puts him in a position where he's out of his element when it comes to helping people. It's very likely that at the start he won't feel like he has the tools to help people because of the specific nature of his skill sets. But it's also a setting that allows him to develop and grow and push himself to realize that there are more things than he can do for others than represent them in court. And this is just some of the potential I see now and some of the character arcs I'm most interested in exploring.

In canon he often has a small but strong support net when things get tough, however, those bonds are things he developed himself from nothing (whether he realizes he did that or not). From Susato who originally thought he murdered Kazuma to Holmes who simply used him to try and foil nefarious plans. So whether he has them or not, he'll be fine. He can thrive easily with or without familiar faces-- probably more than he even realizes.
